Overview
- Elevated Materials announced Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Energy selected the company for a $50 million grant through a $500 million battery manufacturing program.
- The funding covers roughly half of a proposed $100 million facility planned to produce about 3.5 GW of ultra-thin lithium-metal films per year while the company has not disclosed the plant site or construction timetable.
- Elevated Materials uses semiconductor-grade roll-to-roll vacuum deposition to make its ELi lithium films, a continuous wide-format process designed to handle lithium’s high reactivity and achieve uniform ultra-thin layers.
- The company says it has shipped more than 250,000 meters of ELi material to over 30 customers across electric vehicles, consumer electronics, defense, aviation and grid storage as it moves from R&D to commercial scale.
- The award is part of a broader public-private push to build domestic battery supply chains, and the project could speed adoption of higher-energy, faster-charging anodes while private financing, site selection and timing remain the key next milestones.
