Overview
- The Hall of Fame, announcing Saturday at the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis, named nine inductees: Doc Rivers, Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne, Chamique Holdsclaw, Amar’e Stoudemire, Mike D’Antoni, Mark Few, referee Joey Crawford and the 1996 U.S. women’s Olympic team.
- Selections came through the Hall’s committees, with Rivers, Stoudemire, Few and Crawford from the North American Committee, Parker, Delle Donne, Holdsclaw and the 1996 team from the Women’s Committee, and D’Antoni chosen by the Contributors Committee.
- The Hall set enshrinement for Aug. 14–15 in Springfield, Massachusetts, with the tipoff celebration, awards gala and jacket and ring presentations at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
- The Hall credited the 1996 gold medal team with helping launch the WNBA after an 8–0 Olympic run that featured wins by more than 30 points on average.
- The class spans roles and eras, from Rivers’ more than 1,190 coaching wins and a 2008 NBA title, to Parker’s two MVPs and three WNBA championships, Stoudemire’s six All-Star nods and Rookie of the Year, and D’Antoni’s pace-and-space offense that reshaped modern play.
