Dnata Invests A$32 Million in Cargo Hub at Western Sydney’s New Airport

The project signals a push to make the 24-hour site a major freight gateway for New South Wales.

Overview

  • Dnata, which announced the plan Wednesday, will build a 5,000 square metre freighter centre at Western Sydney International.
  • Freighter operations are set to begin in July 2026, ahead of the airport’s passenger opening later in 2026.
  • The airport will hand over a cold shell and dnata will complete the fit-out with critical infrastructure and a semi‑motorised materials handling system.
  • The A$32 million spend includes about A$6 million for equipment to handle time‑ and temperature‑sensitive goods such as pharmaceuticals, with capacity to process up to 60,000 tonnes a year at maturity.
  • The operation is expected to create about 50 direct jobs at launch and slot into a Cargo Precinct built for at least 220,000 tonnes a year and eight wide‑body aircraft stands.
