- DLRG, presenting its annual report Wednesday in Bremen, said its lifeguards saved 1,154 people across Germany in 2025.
- The group counted 704 people pulled directly from the water at guarded sites, yet at least 393 people could not be helped and died.
- More than 51,000 volunteers served in water rescue and spent about 2.6 million hours on duty at beaches, lakes, rivers and pools.
- Volunteers provided help beyond lifesaving to roughly 44,000 people, handling injuries and other incidents during patrols.
- Membership rose to more than 642,000 and trainers awarded 10,239 Junior Rescuer badges, a first-time milestone that strengthens the future lifeguard pipeline.
