Disney’s Bluey Movie Goes to CG for Theatrical Debut

Preserving the original creative team and voice cast, the switch to CG limits options for a full reversal and risks alienating parts of the fanbase.

Overview

  • Disney has confirmed the Bluey feature will use CG animation instead of the series’ familiar 2D look for its planned theatrical release.
  • Creator Joe Brumm is writing and directing the film and lead voice actors Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack are returning.
  • Ludo Studio and BBC Studios remain on the project and Cosmic Dino has been brought in to produce the film’s CG animation.
  • The first teaser drew a polarized fan response that grew intense enough for comments on the trailer to be disabled and raised public questions about the franchise’s visual direction.
  • With production reported to be well advanced, a complete switch back to 2D now appears unlikely and future news will probably focus on marketing, visual refinements, and box-office strategy.
