Disneyland to Release Limited Hatbox Ghost Popcorn Bucket for D23 Day

The timed souvenir aims to boost D23 Day offerings by creating a tightly limited, location-specific collectible that is likely to sell out.

Overview

  • Disneyland Resort announced the Hatbox Ghost popcorn bucket on Thursday as part of its D23 Day and D23 Expo food-and-beverage lineup, posting the reveal via the Disney Eats Instagram account.
  • The bucket will go on sale Aug. 13 at select locations across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, including Harbour Galley, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, Frontierland and New Orleans popcorn stands, Grizzly Peak Airfield, and the area near Carthay Circle.
  • Purchases will be limited to two buckets per guest per transaction, items will be sold while supplies last, and no discounts or Magic Keyholder reductions will apply.
  • Disney has not confirmed whether the bucket will feature light-up or motion effects or whether it will be offered through mobile ordering, and at least one report says the item is not planned for Walt Disney World.
  • The Hatbox Ghost is a popular Haunted Mansion character that returned to the attraction in 2015 and recent Hatbox Ghost novelties have sold out rapidly, which suggests this limited release could trigger fast sellouts and secondary-market demand.
