Disneyland Paris to Retire Main Street Horses by End of 2026

The resort has not said where the Percheron horses will go or what will become of the backstage stables.

Overview

  • Disneyland Paris confirmed Thursday that it will retire every horse that pulls Main Street, U.S.A. streetcars before the end of 2026.
  • The park’s Percherons have pulled horse-drawn streetcars since Disneyland Paris opened in 1992 and the attraction still appears on the official site with promotional copy about ‘majestic Percheron’ horses.
  • Disney has not announced relocation plans for the retired horses or any reuse or demolition plan for the Frontierland stable where they are kept.
  • Fan reaction is split, with some saying retirement is kinder to the animals and others accusing the resort of cutting a nostalgic guest experience to save money.
  • The move follows wider European reductions in live-animal entertainment and does not affect other Disney horse operations, such as those at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World’s Tri-Circle-D Ranch.
