Disney World Restores Resort Monorail After Reported Electrical Fire Halts Service

Guests are being directed to boats pending inspections after the Monorail Silver incident.

Overview

  • Smoke and a burning electrical smell were reported shortly before 9 a.m. near Disney’s Grand Floridian from Monorail Silver, with eyewitness photos showing smoke between cars.
  • Firefighters quickly extinguished the issue and assisted a careful evacuation from the stalled train, and no injuries have been reported.
  • Disney shut down all monorail lines during the response, rerouting crowds to boats and buses and closing the Grand Floridian–Magic Kingdom walking path temporarily.
  • By about 4:25 p.m. ET on November 23, the resort loop resumed operations as Cast Members continued to advise guests to use water transportation; the Express line ran in limited testing.
  • Maintenance crews worked under the stopped train and later moved Monorail Silver along the beam, and Disney has not released a detailed technical explanation of the cause.
