Disney Welcomes Napoleon Wrasse Toa to EPCOT’s The Seas

The endangered humphead wrasse will be on public display to promote guest education about coral reef protection.

Overview

  • Disney Parks announced that a Napoleon (humphead) wrasse named Toa has entered the saltwater habitat at EPCOT’s The Seas and is now available for guests to view.
  • The species is large and distinctive, commonly reaching 6 to 7.5 feet with a pronounced forehead hump and thick lips, and Disney notes the fish is listed as endangered.
  • Napoleon wrasse help reef health by eating crown-of-thorns sea stars, which can otherwise damage coral, making the species important for conservation messaging.
  • The name Toa comes from the Māori language and means “warrior” or “victor,” a choice Disney cast members described as symbolically fitting for the fish.
  • MickeyBlog reported that this is the first Napoleon wrasse to inhabit The Seas pavilion, and Disney is using Toa’s arrival as a public education moment about protecting ocean ecosystems.
