Overview
- A six-foot Carrara marble statue of Grumpy was installed beside the No. 14 tee at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course and unveiled on May 29, 2026, marking the gateway to the four-hole finishing stretch called Grumpy’s Gauntlet.
- Walt Disney Imagineering digitally sculpted the figure, handed the file to a KUKA robotic arm for bulk marble removal, and then had stone artisans refine the details in a program lead Xavier Molina says moved from test to guest display in about a year.
- The sculpture shows Grumpy perched on a rock with his signature scowl and a wooden sign quoting “Mark my words, there’s trouble a-brewin’,” and includes small period details such as a 7-iron and a vintage-style golf ball stamped 1937.
- Disney Golf opened a dedicated Grumpy’s Gauntlet merchandise line at the Magnolia pro shop and is positioning the statue as a popular photo opportunity for golfers playing the challenging holes 14–17.
- Imagineering frames the project as an R&D proof of concept that could change how Disney fabricates large-scale pieces while the resort’s other course work, including Lake Buena Vista’s renovation, increases Magnolia’s role for guests who want on-site golf experiences.
