Disney to Retire Play Disney Parks App on September 16

The decision shifts more in‑park interactivity to MagicBand+ with no announced replacement.

Overview

  • Disney announced the Play Disney Parks app will be retired on September 16, 2026, when it will be removed from app stores and users will no longer be able to log in.
  • Star Wars: Datapad will be retired with the app, but the Batuu Bounty Hunters experience will continue to operate using MagicBand+ and the land’s existing screens.
  • DuckTales World Showcase Adventure is currently down for refurbishment and Disney says it has no information to share about the attraction’s future.
  • Guests will lose access to saved accounts, progress, digital achievements and the app’s queue games and trivia, and Disney has not announced any migration or replacement plan.
  • Play Disney Parks launched in 2018 and expanded with Galaxy’s Edge in 2019; updates slowed after 2020 as Disney shifted focus to My Disney Experience and MagicBand+, a change that may centralize future park interactivity on hardware and the main app.
