Disney to Reimagine Rooms at Art of Animation Resort Starting Summer 2027

Phased work will modernize standard rooms and family suites with new layouts that preserve film-based theming.

Overview

  • Disney confirmed Thursday that a major, phased room refurbishment will begin in summer 2027 at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
  • The project covers both standard guest rooms and the resort’s family suites and will proceed in phases so the hotel remains open to bookings.
  • Disney released specific details for the Little Mermaid standard rooms, which will gain space-saving pull-down Murphy beds, seashell-inspired beds and chairs, large Ariel and “Under the Sea” artwork, and bubble-style lamps on the nightstands.
  • Design plans for other room types—most notably the Cars rooms—have not been published and Disney says additional concept art and a building-by-building timeline will be shared later.
  • This is the resort’s most extensive overhaul since it opened in 2012 and fits a broader Walt Disney World effort to modernize older hotels, a change that will affect guest planning and may alter longtime fans’ experience of the property.
