Disney to Light EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth Red, White and Blue for 250th
The temporary makeover is part of a coordinated resort program that uses special shows and limited-run offerings to mark the nation’s semiquincentennial.
Overview
- Disney announced on June 2 that EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth will get a temporary patriotic lightshow timed for the July 4 period.
- The company said the celebration will expand Voices of Liberty performances at the American Adventure and add special Electrical Water Pageant shows plus extra red, white and blue décor on Magic Kingdom’s Main Street, U.S.A.
- Walt Disney World will also offer special character experiences, limited-time food and beverage items, an already-running Soarin’ Across America overlay, and a two-hour television special tied to the 250th programming.
- Operational details such as showtimes, exact character meet-and-greet rosters, and specific menus have not been released and are expected in the weeks before July 4, leaving guests a roughly one-month window from early June before Spaceship Earth is altered.
- Spaceship Earth has been EPCOT’s defining icon since 1982 and Disney often uses temporary overlays and familiar live elements to tap guest nostalgia while concentrating large-scale holiday programming across the resort.
