Disney+ Sets Nov. 4 Launch for The Remarried Empress and Books Busan World Premiere

The Busan screening signals Disney+'s push to turn a hit webtoon into global prestige television.

Overview

  • Disney+ will open the 10-episode series with four episodes and then release two episodes each week through a late-November finale.
  • The Busan International Film Festival will give the series a three-episode world premiere in its On Screen section before the show arrives on the streamer.
  • The live-action adaptation stars Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young and is directed by Cho Su-won from scripts by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choong-yeol.
  • Disney has billed the production as its most expensive Korean drama, filmed on European locations and elaborate palace sets and based on a Naver webtoon that the company says has nearly 3 billion views.
  • The festival debut and staggered multi-episode rollout aim to build early critical buzz and sustain audience attention for a series with strong built-in fan expectations.
