Overview
- This week new solar-powered trash and recycling units were installed in EPCOT’s World Discovery area and outside Test Track, replacing older cans in those spots.
- Walt Disney Imagineering gave the units site-specific looks so World Discovery kept its white-and-red motif and Test Track received blue hexagonal ribbon graphics tied to the attraction.
- Each bin uses a rooftop solar panel to charge an internal battery that runs a compactor, plus a fullness sensor, a small Cast Member access handle, and a hands-free foot pedal for guest use.
- Guests have reported confusion about how to use the mailbox-style openings and concerns about accessibility for wheelchair users and children, so Disney published instructional videos and is iterating placement, visual cues, and servicing routines.
- The installation is part of a staged parks-wide rollout that began with a December 2024 Germany pavilion pilot and includes festival-themed miniature cans added to the Germany Train Garden during EPCOT’s Food & Wine events.
