Overview
- Disney publicly unveiled the Monstropolis land during a coordinated June 4 construction and story update, placing guests in an in-world celebration called H.U.M.A.N. Day that invites humans into the monster city.
- The centerpiece will be a suspended roller coaster with a vertical lift that sends riders through the film’s door vault, which Disney says is the company’s first suspended-and-vertical-lift coaster.
- Imagineering confirmed at least two attractions, including a technically ambitious theater show that mixes physical sets and animated figures to make guests active participants in monster-human relations.
- Construction is well underway with steel columns and show-building work rising on the former Muppets Courtyard footprint, but Disney has not announced an opening date and has hinted that D23 in August will bring further details.
- Walt Disney Imagineering developed the land in close collaboration with Pixar, including input from Pete Docter, and plans cast-member roles and interactive streetscapes to make the city feel like a living place for guests and performers alike.
