Disney Retires FLIK Wait-Time Card System

An internal implementer said the 26-year red-card program that fed posted wait times has been fully converted to newer undisclosed systems.

Overview

  • Jonathan Reuel, an OpSheet Ecosystems product director, confirmed Sunday that Disney completed the conversion of the last FLIK location and the system is now retired after roughly 26 years of use.
  • FLIK, short for Fabulous Line Information Keeper, worked by giving guests small red cards at queue entry and collecting them at boarding so Cast Members could record actual wait times.
  • The red-card measurements fed the posted wait times at attraction entrances and helped shape daily operations and guest decisions about where to go in the parks.
  • Disney began phasing out the physical FLIK cards about ten years ago and the cards had largely disappeared from the guest experience well before this final conversion.
  • Disney has not issued a corporate announcement or disclosed what exact systems now replace FLIK, so guests should continue to rely on the My Disney Experience app and third-party aggregators for current wait estimations while the company may provide more technical details later.
