Overview
- Disney announced on Thursday that it has ordered an authorized animated adaptation of the Warrior Cats books from rights-holder Coolabi for Disney+ and The Disney Channel.
- Emmy-winning director Rodrigo Blaas will lead the series with production work by El Guiri Studios and Original Force while Tencent Video will handle distribution in China.
- The series is slated to debut in 2028 and Variety reports A. C. Bradley will serve as showrunner for an adaptation of the first book arc.
- Coolabi and Disney pointed to the franchise’s scale — more than 90 million books sold, translations into dozens of languages, about 50 million monthly YouTube views, nearly 3 billion TikTok views, and a fan-made Roblox game with hundreds of millions of plays — as the reason for the global push.
- Coolabi is using the deal to expand licensing, merchandising and gaming plans already under way, a strategy timed to coincide with the industry calendar and Disney’s recent rebrand of its kids division.
