Disney Names New Magic Kingdom Ferry the Meg Gilbert Crofton

The two-deck vessel is being built at a backstage marina to bolster water transit capacity and is slated to enter service in 2027.

Overview

  • Transportation cast members signed a piece of steel that will be installed on the new ferry in a ceremony held Aug. 20–21, 2026, giving staff a lasting, hidden tribute inside the vessel.
  • Construction at a backstage marina has progressed from the hull to a first deck and then a second deck, bringing the boat close to the two-deck profile of the existing fleet.
  • Walt Disney Imagineering is overseeing the design and will place a portrait and plaque honoring Meg Gilbert Crofton, who led the resort from 2006 to 2013, on the ferry’s first deck.
  • When finished, the Meg Gilbert Crofton will become the fourth Magic Kingdom ferry and the first fleet expansion since 1976, helping move guests across Seven Seas Lagoon between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the park.
  • Disney says the new ferry will match the existing boats in capacity and look, and the cast-signing tradition signals staff ownership of operations and a smoother arrival experience for guests once the vessel debuts in 2027.
