Disney Moves Rider Swap Inside the Queue at Space Mountain, Tests at TRON

The shift moves the handoff inside the attraction to cut outdoor waiting for parents with small children.

Overview

  • Cast members at Magic Kingdom said Friday that Space Mountain now uses an internal rider swap and TRON Lightcycle / Run is testing the same process.
  • Rider swap lets two adults take turns riding when a child does not meet the height rule, with one adult waiting while the other rides.
  • Under the new flow, the whole group walks the queue together, the first adult rides at the load area, and the waiting adult stays with non‑riders in a designated indoor space until it is their turn.
  • The internal option is not required, since families can still choose to wait outside and use a Lightning Lane return for the second adult.
  • Cast members said most other attractions are not offering this internal swap, with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train only allowing it at times late at night, so guests should confirm the day’s procedure at each ride.
