Disney Links Millennium Falcon Ride to Fortnite With New Smugglers Gambit Island

The integration uses shared Unreal Engine technology to carry loot and progression from the physical Smugglers Run attraction into a bespoke Fortnite island as part of Disney’s push to extend its stories beyond the parks.

Overview

  • Smugglers Gambit and the connected Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run activation launched on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, with the Fortnite island available the same day and the in-park feature live at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Guests activate Hondo Ohnaka’s mission in the queue by scanning a QR sign or using the Disneyland or My Disney Experience app, have their phone validate that they rode, and then link MyDisney and Epic accounts to claim in-game rewards such as the Forsworn Trooper outfit.
  • The link is two-way because the ride’s cockpit was built on Unreal Engine 5, allowing many authentic ride assets to be reused in Fortnite and letting crates and progression collected on the physical ride transfer into Smugglers Gambit while game progress can influence attraction scoring.
  • On-site reporting found the physical ride and controls remain largely unchanged aside from new queue signage and the app/QR workflow, and Disney is providing redemption codes by email for guests who cannot link accounts; the feature is included with regular park admission.
  • The activation follows Disney’s $1.5 billion 2024 investment in Epic Games and represents an early step in a broader plan to create an interoperable games-and-entertainment universe that targets gaming-native audiences and extends park storytelling into at-home play.
