Disney Files Plans To Reconfigure Parking At Grand Floridian

SFWMD review will decide if the proposal to add parking capacity with a covered connector can proceed.

Overview

  • Walt Disney World filed the application titled “GF Parking Modifications” with the South Florida Water Management District on Monday, describing two construction zones that total about 3.60 acres.
  • The larger 3.40-acre zone would reconfigure Grand Floridian DVC parking and the Wedding Pavilion parking along Floridian Way to add spaces and reshape driveway access.
  • A smaller 0.20-acre "Proposed Connection" near the Polynesian’s Island Tower would join the resorts’ DVC parking into a continuous corridor between the Grand Floridian and the Island Tower.
  • Plans include a covered connector shown as a walkway from Grand Floridian DVC guest rooms to the Wedding Pavilion parking loop and list the Health Spa, Wedding Pavilion, DVC parking and Island Tower as affected areas.
  • The filing gives no schedule or completion date, so work depends on SFWMD permitting and coordination with the adjacent World Drive North Phase 3 roadway project and could require alternate guest routing during construction.
