Overview
- Disney announced at D23 in August that most of the Monsters, Inc. land will begin opening in 2027 while the headline suspended 'door' coaster will arrive in a later phase.
- Sunday's aerial photos obtained by bioreconstruct show clear progress on the land with scaffolded façades, a repainted clock tower at the former Muppet*Vision theater, four new concrete entrance columns, and plumbing work under the future central fountain.
- Disney has said the coaster will be the company’s first suspended coaster and will use Disney’s first vertical lift, and large quantities of Vekoma track have been photographed staged off-site near the Skyliner route awaiting installation.
- Guest-facing elements aimed for the initial opening include The Glob theater show with an original Randy Newman song, restaurants such as Harryhausen’s with a tentacled animatronic chef, Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Monsters University Alumni Club, and the Scareporium.
- Despite visible on-site progress, substantial infrastructure and theming work remains and Disney has not given a month for the 2027 window so the land’s first phase could open early or late in 2027 with the coaster likely following afterward.
