Disney Begins Demolishing Mike Fink Keel Boat Landing for Piston Peak at Magic Kingdom

A January permit naming MLC Theming points to planned scenic work after the teardown.

Overview

  • The demolition, which began Friday, has already removed roughly half the landing, including the dock along the former Rivers of America.
  • The tower by The Haunted Mansion and a section near the former Riverboat Landing remain behind construction walls, with the old stairway to the dock still visible.
  • Walt Disney Imagineering’s January “general construction” permit lists MLC Theming, whose scenic and rockwork specialties suggest possible cleanup or re-theming once demolition wraps.
  • Disney’s released Piston Peak concept art and the playful “fun map” do not show the landing site, leaving any re-use of remaining pieces uncertain.
  • Piston Peak National Park will replace Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island with a Cars-themed wilderness area featuring two attractions, new original characters, careful sightlines, and added water features.
