Disney Adds Unannounced Lawn Games to Former DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom

The temporary play area is meant to keep guests occupied while Walt Disney Imagineering transforms the space for Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas land planned for 2027.

Overview

  • The lawn games, which appeared Tuesday, include tic-tac-toe, checkers and cornhole and were installed by Disney cast members inside the cleared DinoLand U.S.A. footprint.
  • Disney did not announce the addition publicly, the games will not appear on the park map, and the company has given no timeline for how long they will remain in place.
  • DinoLand U.S.A. closed in phases beginning January 2025 with final elements like DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus shuttering in February 2026 before construction began.
  • Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled Pueblo Esperanza at D23 Expo 2024 and plans three new attractions there: an animal-themed carousel, a Casita-inspired Encanto ride, and an Indiana Jones retheme of DINOSAUR.
  • The lawn games are a low-cost operational move to ease reduced ride capacity and draw guests into the work zone, and the park will be watched for future announcements as Pueblo Esperanza targets a 2027 opening.
