Overview
- On May 19 Disney began letting eligible bundle users link Hulu profiles to Disney+, which imports their Hulu watch history, watchlist, Continue Watching progress and personalized recommendations into the Disney+ app.
- The rollout is phased and excludes several account types and profiles, including Hulu + Live TV plans, accounts with Hulu add-ons, Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle customers and kids or profiles under 18.
- Some Hulu-only subscribers who meet eligibility can sign into Disney+ with their Hulu credentials to stream Hulu’s on-demand library and a small sample of Disney+ and ESPN content at no extra cost.
- Disney said it will soon test a Live Guide inside Disney+ and that live TV channels and premium add-ons currently remain in the Hulu app but are planned to arrive in Disney+ later.
- Disney frames the changes as a step toward a single backend and unified app to boost engagement and cut costs, while stressing there are no current plans to retire the standalone Hulu app and the linking rollout will expand through 2026.
