- Uchtdorf becomes the acting quorum leader as he is now third in apostolic seniority following Jeffrey R. Holland’s Dec. 27, 2025 death, with Henry B. Eyring serving in the First Presidency.
- As acting president, he will direct the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, which operates under the First Presidency as the Church’s second-highest presiding body.
- Uchtdorf, 85, has served as an apostle since 2004, as a general authority since 1994, and was second counselor in the First Presidency from 2008 to 2018.
