Diego Sanchez Gets Five Years’ Probation, 800 Hours of Service in Albuquerque Gun Case

The ruling follows a February guilty plea to a fourth-degree felony in a shooting-from-a-vehicle case.

Overview

  • An Albuquerque judge on Thursday ordered five years of supervised probation and 800 hours of community service for the 44-year-old former UFC fighter.
  • Prosecutors had asked for a two-year prison term based on the felony count, but the court opted for supervision instead.
  • Sanchez pleaded guilty in February to shooting at or from a motor vehicle with no great bodily harm, and a negligent-use misdemeanor was dismissed under the plea deal.
  • Police said a shot was fired from a passing Jeep near a crash on I-40 in July 2025, and officers reported finding a Glock 42, a spent casing, and live rounds in the passenger area.
  • The driver, Derrick Montoya, told officers Sanchez fired the gun, and Sanchez later said he accepted responsibility, reported treatment for bipolar disorder, and faces a 10-year firearm ban as a convicted felon.
