Dick Vitale Says Scans Found ‘Abnormalities’ With Biopsy Set for Friday

A biopsy will determine what the new scan results mean.

Overview

  • Dick Vitale, 86, disclosed Wednesday that routine PET, CT and MRI scans showed abnormalities and that doctors ordered more tests.
  • He said he feels great physically and sharp mentally and plans to stay active while he awaits a biopsy scheduled for Friday.
  • The update was shared by ESPN PR executive Josh Krulewitz, and ESPN and many colleagues quickly posted messages of support.
  • Vitale returned to ESPN in February 2025 after bouts with melanoma, lymphoma, vocal cord cancer and a cancerous lymph node, and he called his first NCAA Tournament TV game with Charles Barkley in March.
  • He also urged support for The V Foundation, which holds its annual Sarasota gala on May 1 to raise money for children facing cancer.
