Overview
- The Department of Homeland Security published a final rule that took effect June 29, 2026, updating the official list of documents that prove alien registration in the United States.
- USCIS’s electronic G-325R is now an accepted proof of registration and is issued as a PDF after an applicant creates a myUSCIS account and completes a biometric appointment at a USCIS ASC.
- The rule requires registered noncitizens aged 18 and older to carry proof of registration at all times and makes failure to carry it a misdemeanor punishable by up to $5,000 in fines, up to 30 days in jail, or both.
- Parents or guardians must ensure registration for youths covered by the rule and people who turn 14 have 30 days to request the registration document and biometric capture; the rule also lists exemptions such as U.S. citizens, certain diplomats and NATO representatives, and members of the Kickapoo Band of Texas.
- DHS added CBP trusted-traveler credentials (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) to the accepted list, says the change may affect street stops and inspections where migrants must show physical or accessible digital proof, and DHS is accepting public comments only through the federal portal until August 28, 2026.
