Dharmanagar Delivery Worker Case: Three Arrested in Assam, Two Sought

Cross-border cooperation enabled the detentions for court production in Dharmanagar.

Overview

  • Tripura Police, with Assam Police support, arrested three suspects in Sribhumi, southern Assam, on Thursday for the alleged assault that preceded Prasenjit Sarkar’s reported suicide.
  • The detainees were identified as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee—described by police as a schoolteacher—and Sourav Bhattacharjee, and they are to be produced in a Dharmanagar court.
  • Two other named accused, Meghadeep Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar, are reported absconding as the search continues, according to police and the family’s FIR.
  • The family’s complaint alleges three women and two men assaulted Sarkar at his workplace on December 14, recorded the incident, and circulated the video on social media, causing severe humiliation.
  • Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has pledged a thorough probe and expedited legal action as protests across the state call for swift justice and stringent punishment.
