Dhandhuka Demolitions Begin After Killing, Power Cut to Two

Officials say the sweep targets illegal encroachments tied to criminal histories.

Overview

  • Authorities began razing alleged illegal encroachments on Tuesday under heavy security, marking roughly 15 to 20 structures along the railway station–Ranpur stretch, in Khatkiwad, and on the Dhandhuka–Bagodara road.
  • The power company disconnected supply to the homes of Shabbir Chopda and Imtiyaz Pathan, and officials said cases under Section 135 of the Electricity Act are being initiated.
  • The action follows the fatal stabbing of Dharmesh Gamara after a minor motorcycle collision, with suspects Samir and Rizwan arrested, placed on two days’ police remand, and taken to a crime-scene reconstruction.
  • Police registered a murder case and a broad FIR naming more than 120 people for rioting and damage to property, and they reported the town’s situation is under control with security reinforced.
  • A Special Investigation Team is probing the killing and the arson, police said the two accused have no prior criminal cases, and investigators reported no evidence so far of a communal motive as about 400 officers secured the demolition sites.
