DGAC Orders Flight Reductions at Paris Airports for Sunday Snow and Ice

The cuts create space for de-icing to keep runway operations safe during a brief episode expected to turn to rain by midday.

Overview

  • Airlines were asked to cut schedules by 30% at Paris-Charles de Gaulle from 07:00 to 16:00 and by 20% at Paris-Orly from 06:00 to 14:00 on Sunday, 15 February.
  • Météo France placed all of Île-de-France and the Hauts-de-France region under orange vigilance for snow and ice with a start early Sunday morning.
  • Accumulations are forecast to be light at roughly 1–3 cm in the Paris region, locally up to 5 cm, and 3–6 cm in Hauts-de-France with intensities near 1 cm per hour.
  • Local authorities issued road-safety measures, including in Yvelines where speeds drop by 20 km/h for all vehicles and overtaking is banned for heavy goods vehicles.
  • Snow is expected to arrive from the west in the morning, then a midday warm-up should shift precipitation to rain and rapidly melt any snow, so travelers should check flight status with their airlines.
