Devils Introduce Sunny Mehta as General Manager

His first priority is a top-to-bottom review of players, coaches and staff.

Overview

  • Mehta, introduced Tuesday at the Prudential Center, called the role his dream job and said his goal is to build a team that wins.
  • He said every part of the organization is under evaluation and stated no decisions have been made yet, including on head coach Sheldon Keefe.
  • Managing partner David Blitzer said the team intends to spend to the salary cap, giving Mehta wide latitude to shape the roster.
  • The New Jersey native returns with two Stanley Cups from his Florida tenure as assistant GM and head of analytics, after starting the Devils’ first full-time analytics group in 2014.
  • Near-term work now shifts to assessments, draft and free‑agency prep, and navigating cap and no‑move clauses as Mehta builds around core players Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt.
