Deutsche Bahn to Cut ICE Stops at Berlin-Spandau Starting Feb. 6

The company says the change is a stability step for an overburdened Berlin hub.

Overview

  • ICE services will call at Spandau less often from 6 February, with a temporary timetable designed to improve reliability.
  • Berlin–Hannover trains will stop hourly instead of every 30 minutes, and Berlin–Frankfurt services will stop every two hours.
  • Deutsche Bahn cites a chronically overloaded Berlin traffic node and widespread slow-speed sections between Wolfsburg and Berlin causing delays.
  • The reduced stop pattern is planned through mid-June, with a possible partial restoration from May if the Hamburg–Berlin works finish by end-April.
  • Further changes are planned during a Stadtbahn renovation that will skip central stations, and a corridor overhaul from October on Berlin–Wolfsburg–Lehrte, with detailed timetables still in development.
