Overview
- DB InfraGo began restoring service on the Hamburg–Berlin line, with long‑distance trains running again between Hamburg and Hagenow Land or Schwerin and full route use expected with the June 14 timetable change.
- Ground frost over winter pushed the Hamburg–Berlin works back by weeks, and DB now promises renewed track, signals and stations prepared for the European train control system.
- S‑Bahn tracks on the Cologne–Wuppertal–Hagen corridor are closed through June 12, and regional lines RE4 and RE13 do not run between Hagen Hbf and Düsseldorf Hbf during the shutdown.
- About 200 replacement buses run at peak times on the NRW routes, with all‑stops and express options, though riders report delays when buses get stuck in motorway traffic.
- The NRW overhaul replaces 81 kilometers of track, 50 switches and 29 kilometers of overhead line, adds noise barriers and renovates 12 stations, with all routes slated to be back in service around July 10.
