- Eligible Detroit participants receive $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of a baby’s life, for a total of $4,500.
- Enrollment is open to mothers at least 16 weeks pregnant and to children born on or after January 1, 2026, with no income or work requirements.
- With roughly 8,000 births a year, Detroit represents the program’s most significant scale-up since its 2024 debut in Flint.
- Rx Kids was founded by pediatrician Dr. Mona Hanna, is led by Michigan State University, and is administered by GiveDirectly through a public–private partnership.
- State lawmakers authorized $250 million over three years for expansion, though recent budget reductions could slow future rollouts, as early results show reduced financial stress and improved maternal and infant outcomes; to date, 5,734 families have received $23.68 million statewide.
