Detroit Officer Charged After Allegedly Sending Himself Explicit Photos From Woman’s Phone

He was released on a $100,000 personal bond with GPS monitoring under strict no-contact, no-device conditions.

Overview

  • Wayne County prosecutors charged Officer Derond Martez Crawford, 34, with using a computer to commit a crime, misconduct in office, and interfering with a telecommunications device.
  • Prosecutors say he accessed a 22-year-old’s phone during a March 3 traffic stop and sent explicit photos of her to himself without consent, which she noticed in emails she did not send after her phone was returned.
  • The stop occurred in the 17600 block of Mound Road for an improper plate, and the driver was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.
  • It is further alleged he went to the woman’s home off duty on March 4 in the morning, and she did not answer the door.
  • He was arraigned and released on a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether, house arrest, and orders barring contact with the victim and use of computers or telecommunications devices except for court; hearings are set for March 16 and March 23 as reports differ on whether arraignment occurred March 7 or March 8.
