Detroit Man Charged After Alleged Assault on Bus and in Downtown Restaurant

Prosecutors say the suspect faces multiple felony counts and was arraigned under a $100,000 bond with GPS monitoring and house arrest.

  • Prosecutors say Orlando Jermaine Thomas Jr. first assaulted his 26-year-old girlfriend on a DDOT bus, allegedly spitting on her and pushing her into the windshield until it cracked on June 7.
  • The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office says the alleged violence continued at a Potbelly on Woodward where Thomas threw tables and chairs and hit and kicked the victim.
  • Witnesses flagged officers to Thomas walking near Congress and Griswold, he ran from police, and was arrested near Griswold and North Larned after the restaurant attack.
  • Thomas was arraigned on June 9 on charges including assault to do great bodily harm, felonious assault, domestic violence and two counts of malicious destruction of property and was ordered held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest; a bond redetermination hearing is set for June 11.
  • The 26-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment and Prosecutor Kym Worthy directed people experiencing domestic violence to Wayne County resources for shelters, hotlines and support services.
