Overview
- Prosecutors say Kabamba E. Kyalangalilwa took his 1-year-old daughter to a party and left her with neighbors to swim, then returned about five hours later and placed the unsecured infant on his motorcycle.
- Investigators allege he was intoxicated, sped away, lost control of the motorcycle, and the child struck her head on a curb before medics took her to a hospital for lacerations to her head, face and legs.
- After the crash prosecutors say he tried to flee in a vehicle, abandoned it, ran on foot and was later arrested, leaving the injured toddler at the scene.
- Kyalangalilwa was arraigned on counts that include second-degree child abuse, child abandonment and reckless driving; his bond was set initially at $100,000 then reduced to a $25,000 personal bond with a GPS tether and a nightly curfew and a preliminary exam is scheduled for August 20, 2026.
- Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called the alleged conduct extraordinary and said it was miraculous the child survived, Child Protective Services is involved, and the upcoming pretrial hearings will determine whether prosecutors add evidence or seek further charges.
