DESRI Breaks Ground on Two Solar‑Plus‑Storage Projects in New Mexico

The twin developments add 270 MW of solar and 720 MWh of batteries to firm local power supply and support replacement of the retired San Juan coal plant.

Overview

  • DESRI and partner Tierra Adentro Growth Capital began construction this week, breaking ground May 26–27 on Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa in San Juan County.
  • Foxtail Flats will pair 170 MW of solar with an 80 MW/320 MWh battery and is under a long‑term power purchase agreement with the Incorporated County of Los Alamos.
  • Four Mile Mesa will combine 100 MW of solar with a 100 MW/400 MWh battery and was procured through PNM’s Rate 36B to serve a Meta data center.
  • SOLV Energy is the EPC contractor, TAGC is an equity partner, construction financing was led by NORD/LB and Santander, and peak construction employment is expected to reach about 600 workers.
  • Both projects sit on Ute Mountain Ute Tribe land next to DESRI’s existing San Juan solar site, are slated to enter commercial operations in 2027, and are intended to firm daytime solar output for evening peak demand.
