Overview
- The Tallahassee airport, which Gov. Ron DeSantis renamed Tuesday by signing SB 628, will now be called Bobby Bowden Tallahassee International Airport.
- FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue said crews would begin changing every road sign to add Bowden’s name right after the ceremony.
- State officials said the law takes effect July 1, yet the public will see immediate updates on approach signs and other wayfinding.
- The Legislature approved the change in mid-March through SB 628 after Sen. Corey Simon, a former FSU player under Bowden, added the amendment and praised Bowden’s mentorship.
- Bowden led FSU for 34 seasons with two national titles and a long run of top-five finishes, and he already has fields named for him at FSU and at Samford University.
