Denison Tops Scranton 55-41 for First NCAA Division III Women’s Title

Defense and rebounding carried the Big Red past the nation’s No. 2 scoring offense to close a record-setting season.

Abby Cooch scored 18 points and Ada Taute added 15 points with 10 rebounds as Denison clinched the championship in Salem, Virginia.
Anelly Mad-toingué dominated the glass with 16 rebounds, eight points and three blocks to anchor Denison’s interior.
Scranton shot 11% in the first half and went 0-for-17 from the field in the second quarter on the way to a season-low 41 points.
After Scranton took a 34-33 lead into the fourth, back-to-back 3s by Cooch and Taute sparked a decisive 14-0 run that put Denison in control.
Scranton finished 32-1 after snapping NYU’s 91-game win streak in the semifinal, while Denison extended its program wins record to 30-2 for its first national crown.
