Democratic AGs Vow Coordinated Fight on Trump Policies and Election Integrity in Portland

The officials framed 2026 election integrity as a central legal priority.

Overview

  • At a Portland town hall, Oregon’s Dan Rayfield joined Rob Bonta (California), Anne Lopez (Hawaii), Aaron Frey (Maine) and Keith Ellison (Minnesota) to pledge continued legal challenges to the Trump administration.
  • Ellison said the group is focused on election integrity heading into the 2026 midterms as the DOJ seeks unredacted voter-roll data from more than 20 states, and an Oregon federal judge signaled he would block access to sensitive data for over 3 million voters.
  • Oregon officials said they have filed more than 50 lawsuits in the past year with other states, actions they say protected or recovered billions for research, infrastructure and education while blocking certain federal moves.
  • Rayfield said Oregon is investigating whether Border Patrol agents acted outside their authority in a Jan. 8 shooting that wounded two Venezuelan nationals, with state investigators coordinating with the Multnomah County district attorney and Portland police.
  • In Minnesota, after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Nicole Good, Ellison and Hennepin County opened a public portal for evidence; the DOJ said it will not investigate the agent and has reportedly issued subpoenas to several Minnesota Democrats, which Ellison confirmed included a document request to his office.
