Overview
- DEME was awarded the contract on Monday to transport, marshall and install 69 monopile foundations for the first 1 GW phase of the Zeevonk offshore wind project.
- The scope covers intermediate monopile transport, port marshalling for primary and secondary steel, monopile installation using the Orion vessel, and placement of a filter layer for scour protection.
- The contract and the start of offshore works remain conditional on a final investment decision by the Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners joint venture.
- Zeevonk is planned in two phases with the first 1 GW targeted for 2029 and a second 1 GW by 2032 that will add about 500 MW of system-integration capacity including an electrolyser in the Port of Rotterdam.
- The project stems from a 2024 Dutch tender that requires multi-technology integration and has already secured commercial backing for part of the output through a 250 MW PPA with Google, raising demand for port marshalling, specialised vessels and local supply-chain jobs.
