Delta Ends Snacks and Drinks on Flights Under 350 Miles Starting May 19

The carrier says short hops leave too little time for consistent service.

Overview

  • Delta, which confirmed the change Monday, will stop complimentary service for Main Cabin and Comfort+ on flights 349 miles or less starting May 19.
  • Flights 350 miles or more will get full snacks and beverages for those cabins, raising service levels on about 14% of daily departures.
  • About 9% of flights, roughly 450 daily routes such as LAXSFO and JFK–BOS, will now offer no complimentary snacks or drinks.
  • First Class keeps full service on every route as Delta drops its interim “express” tier to simplify what crews deliver on short segments.
  • Reaction online has been sharp, with some pointing to CEO Ed Bastian’s reported $27.1 million pay, as coverage ties the move to rising fuel costs, recent Delta disruptions, and Spirit’s shutdown.
