Delivery Driver Charged With Assaulting Wheelchair User During Medication Drop

Police say the arrest begins a criminal case that includes enhanced charges meant to protect elderly and disabled victims.

Overview

  • Police allege the assault occurred while the driver was delivering medicine to the woman’s East Bridgewater home on Sunday, Aug. 2, and that the victim uses a wheelchair and has severe mobility issues.
  • Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Qaisar Ali of Brockton, located his vehicle and arrested him after a motor-vehicle stop on Wednesday.
  • Prosecutors charged Ali with multiple counts including assault and battery on an elderly or disabled person, indecent assault and battery, indecent exposure, breaking and entering in the daytime, and assault with intent to commit rape.
  • Ali was arraigned in Brockton District Court and held on $10,000 bail; the investigation is ongoing and no conviction has been reported.
  • The case raises safety concerns about in-home medication delivery for homebound patients and could prompt reviews of delivery protocols while prosecutors pursue enhanced penalties for crimes against vulnerable people.
