Delhi’s Yamuna Cruise Targets February Launch After Mumbai Inspection

Officials frame the electric-solar service as a MoPSW-backed pilot on the Sonia Vihar–Jagatpur stretch.

Overview

  • The vessel is scheduled to leave Mumbai on January 20 and reach Delhi in three to four days for engine installation.
  • Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra says final technical work will follow arrival, with a February launch targeted and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expected to inaugurate.
  • Operations are planned over a 6–7 km corridor between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur on National Waterway-110, offering roughly hourlong round trips.
  • Boats use electric–solar hybrid propulsion with seating for about 30–40 passengers, and two floating jetties have already been installed at Sonia Vihar.
  • The project is budgeted at around Rs 20 crore, with onboard food and entertainment, future water sports, and planned DTC links to nearby metro stations.
