Delhi’s Air Quality Turns ‘Severe’ as Fog Triggers Flight Delays and Prolonged Pollution Forecast

Calm fog from a western disturbance trapped emissions, keeping restrictions at GRAP Stage III for now.

Overview

  • CPCB data show Delhi’s 24-hour AQI rose from 332 on Friday to 385 on Saturday and crossed into the severe band at 403 by 10 pm on Sunday.
  • Around half of the city’s monitoring stations hit the severe range, with hotspots such as Anand Vihar and Shadipur registering around 445–451.
  • Visibility at IGI Airport dipped to roughly 500 metres in the morning and more than 400 flights were delayed with three cancellations, according to officials and flight-tracking data.
  • IMD issued an orange alert for very dense fog on Monday and forecasts persistent low winds under a western disturbance, while AQEWS expects very poor air for several days.
  • Authorities kept GRAP Stage III curbs in force and said they are monitoring conditions for any need to reconvene on tighter measures.
