DelhiNCR Fast-Tracks Grid Air Monitoring: 27 Stations Underway, 46 Proposed

Officials aim to standardise a 5 km by 5 km network to guide policy, with experts urging credible siting and reliable data.

Overview

  • Delhi inaugurated six new continuous monitoring stations this week, taking its network to 46 across the 1,483 sq km city.
  • Fourteen additional Delhi sites are planned in the next financial year to reach 60 stations and complete 5 km × 5 km coverage by the end of 2026–27.
  • The Environment Ministry announced 27 new stations for DelhiNCR, with six already installed and work in progress in Haryana (7), Rajasthan (4) and Uttar Pradesh (10).
  • Officials have proposed 46 more stations to bring the regional total to 157, distributed as 60 in Delhi, 45 in Haryana (NCR), 9 in Rajasthan (NCR) and 43 in Uttar Pradesh (NCR).
  • CAQM is implementing a grid standard of one monitor per 25 sq km in Delhi and contiguous NCR cities and one per 50 sq km in other district headquarters, as Haryana officials indicate four of seven new NCR stations are expected in Gurugram pending site studies.
